"THAT WASN’T VERY NICE what you did back there, Bexy." Leo’s expression was clouded in anger, and his voice was stern.

"What did I do?" Bexy feigned innocence.

"You know what you did. If you do that again, I'll cut you off completely from seeing me. Friend or no friend. She's a nice girl, and you didn't have to do that."

"I didn't do anything."

"You didn't do anything? You gave Honesty an unbecoming look and pulled me over here while I was talking to her and told me you had to speak to me privately. And all you had to do was tell me that you're going to change the color of your outfit for the boat race. What the hell was that about?"

"Okay, sorry. I just needed to speak to you."

"I'm warning you, Bexy. Back off. I like Honesty. I don't want you throwing dagger eyes at her again. Got it?”

“Yes sir, Leo,” she responded coolly, her voice laced with sarcasm. “And just keep your focus on the race coming up. We really need to win this championship so that we can raise enough funds for our charity. I just don’t want you to take your focus off the race, that's all. I don't want any distractions. You used to practice every day or every other day. Now you hardly practice once a week since you met her."

"I only just met her a few weeks ago—we’ve been practicing all year."

Just then, they were interrupted by Leo's brother, Brandon.

"Everything okay in here?" Brandon asked.

"It's okay, I’ve finished speaking with Bexy now."

Bexy took her cue and gave Leo a look before walking away.

"What's up with that?" Brandon asked, moments later.

"Oh, just Bexy being Bexy again."

"Well, don't let it get to you, bro. Besides, Dad’s really happy."

"He is? Why?"

"Because you and that lovely Honesty girl seem really good together. I really hope it works out for you two. I think I heard him telling Aunt Maya something like five out of five ain’t bad. He said he couldn't believe that before he goes to be with the Lord, he's going to see all five of his sons settle down."

"Now, just what are you saying?"

"I'm just saying that if there's a spark of interest there, maybe it's worth it to not wait too long." His brother gave him a wink.

"You're really something you know that."

"And so are you, bro. I can tell you like her a lot. You haven’t taken your eyes off her all evening. People were thinking you two were the ones getting married.” Brandon grinned. “And you know something, when your back was turned, she kept stealing long glances at you, too, as if you were the best thing on this planet. Poor unsuspecting girl,” Brandon teased his brother.

Leo grinned and rolled his eyes at Brandon.

Was Honesty really watching him when his back was turned to her?

“Remember, I’m a detective, right?” Brandon continued. “I can tell these things. I'm good at detecting human emotions. Like a dog in one sense of the way. Only not where women are concerned, of course.
